Meeting with population of village Didi Jikhaishi(15.08.2017)

On August 15 , within the framework of  the project “ Clean Up Georgia “ (phase III) community  meeting was held on waste management issues in village Didi Jikhaishi , organized by  Samtredia regional  coordinator of the  Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth – Georgia.

At the meeting  local coordinator provided  information to presented audience on problems related to  waste management in Georgia, obligations of municipalities and world experience in the field of waste management.

The meeting showed a great interest in the population. It was noted, that it is important to conduct awareness raising campaigns and organize   large-scale cleanup activities. 13 local residents took part in the meeting.

The meeting has been conducted within the framework of the project “Clean Up Georgia” (Phase III)   and implemented by NGO  consortium Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia, Georgian Society of  Nature Explorers “Orchis, “Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”  with financial support of Swedish Government and in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and Solid Waste Management Company.

World Environment Day in Zestafoni

On June 5,  World Environment Day in Zestafoni was marked by clean up action, organized by the local coordinator of the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia.  The pupils and teachers of local public schools took part in the action together with the organizers. During the event 5 public schools surrounding  areas  were cleaned up with participation of  500 pupils. Around 2 ha area was cleaned up and 5 m3 waste was collected.

Clean Up Action in Town Ureki

World Water Day in  town Ureki was marked  by carrying out  clean up actions in the framework of the campaigns “Clean up Georgia” and “Blue Stream.”  The event was organized by the  local coordinator  of  the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia  in Guria region with support of  local authorities.

 

The event was held on March 23, during which the Black Sea shoreline has been cleaned up. Representatives of local authorities, residents of Magnetiti, pupils of Ureki   public school actively participated in the action. About 55 local residents took part in this event, approximately 25 m3 of waste was collected and about 1 hectare area  was cleaned up.

Clean Up Action in Sachkhere Municipality

On the occasion of World Water Day the clean up action was held in  Sachkhere  Municipality on March 22. The event was organized by the regional coordinator of the Greens Movement of Georgia/ Friends of the Earth Georgia in Sachkhere and with support of local government.

 

During the action were cleaned up the shorelines of small rivers. The action involved Sachkhere Municipality Board and Council representatives, public school teachers and pupils. Around 5 hectares of land has been cleaned up and 54 m3 of waste was collected, nearly 1000 volunteers took part in the action.

Clean Up Action of River Tekhura

22 March, an International World Water Day  in  Senaki Municipality was marked  by  carrying out of  clean up action,  conducted within the framework of the campaigns “Clean up Georgia” and “Blue Stream ”. The event  has been organized by  the local coordinator of the   Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth Georgia, with support of local authorities.

During   the action was  cleaned up  the shoreline of  Tekhura river. The event was attended by representatives of local government and local residents, around 50 people.  Approximately 5m3 of wastes were collected and  about 1 ha area  has been  cleaned up.

Clean up action in Khoni municipality

At the initiative of  the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia a cleanup action was carried out in Khoni municipality. The event was carried out within the framework of the campaigns “Clean up Georgia” and “Blue Stream”, organized by the local coordinator.  On April 6, during  the action , the irrigation canal  and its banks were cleaned up.  The event has been attended by representatives of  local municipality, charity house and representatives of green space service.

Around 20  volunteers   cleaned up about 2 hectares of land and  collected 2 tons of waste.

The Contest “Clean Region” has been Aannounced in Georgia

At the initiative and organization of the Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia,  Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and with support of  the  Ministry of Justice of Georgia  a meeting  took place in connection with the announcement of the contest  “Clean Region ”  in the House of Justice as part of “Clean Up Georgia” campaign .

 

The contest “Clean Region” was first announced in Georgia within the framework of the campaign “Clean up Georgia” in 2015 and its purpose was to identify the most clean region, municipality and village. The winners of the 2015 competition were Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, Akhmeta municipality and village Chitakatskaro – Zugdidi municipality. This year, the competition is held for the second time.

 

In 2017, unlike previous competition  the contest  “Clean Region” will be held in six nominations, such as Clean City; Clean Street; Clean Region; Clean Municipality; Clean Village; Beautiful Yard.

 

During the meeting held in the House of Justice, Community  Centers of  Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice  in the regions were involved through direct connection : Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Samegrelo –  Zemo Svaneti and Guria, Representatives of  regional organizations of the Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia and local coordinators of the project  “Clean up Georgia Phase III”  attended together with representatives of local authorities.

 

During the meeting  the manager of the project  “Clean up Georgia Phase III”  presented the results of  activities carried out in the regions within the framework of the project  as well as   planned activities  in this direction,   in which representatives of partner organizations also took part.

 

The regional representatives were  welcomed  by  Ms. Nino Chkhobadze – Co-Chair of the  Greens Movement / Friends of the Earth – Georgia;  Mr. Gigla Agulashvili – Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia: Mr. Alexander Baramidze-   Acting Minister of Justice; Representatives of  Swedish International Development Agency –  Ms.  Elsa Hastad – Assistant  Director General, Eurolatin, Sida;    Ms.Mirja Peterson –  Head of Division for Environment, Market Development and Eastern Europe, Sida;   Ms. Molly Lien – Head of Development Cooperation/ Deputy Head of Mission.

 

At the meeting Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection Mr. Gigla Agulashvili  announced the contest  “Clean Region”. Information about the terms of the competition will be distributed through social networks and sent to all regions. Summing up of received information will be made by the Greens Movement of Georgia . The winners will be nominated at the end of October and will be awarded.

Clean up action in Kobuleti

On  April 8, in the framework of the campaigns “Clean up Georgia” and “Blue Stream a clean up action was carried out in. Kobuleti.  The event was organized by the regional coordinator of the Greens Movement of Georgia/ Friends of the Earth Georgia in Adjara, during which the shoreline area of river Chakvistskali  has been cleaned up. The event was attended by 40 people,   about 7m3 of waste was collected and around 3 ha area were cleaned up.

Clean up action in Kutaisi

On the occasion of World Water Day  the clean up action was held in Kutaisi Automobile Plant settlement on March 22. The event was organized by the regional coordinator of the Greens Movement of Georgia/ Friends of the Earth Georgia in Kutaisi and with support of local government.

 

During the action was cleaned up the shoreline section of  Olaskura river with an area of 0.5 hectares. The action was attended by 40 people, and about 2m3 of waste was collected.

Clean up action at Lake Ilia

Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia  with support of  local coordinators of  the organization and in cooperation with local authorities has celebrated  World Water Day in the framework of the campaigns “Clean up Georgia” and “Blue Stream” in different municipalities of Georgia.  On March 28 on the occasion of this day a clean up action was carried out in Kvareli municipality,  during which  the lake Ilia and its environs  as well as sections of  Duruji riverside area were cleaned up.

 

In the event along with organizers actively participated the employees  of Kvareli Municipality and local residents.  Around  150  people took part in the action, about 15 m3 of waste was collected and approximately 7 hectare area  was cleaned up.
